Don't limit yourself!

Awhile back, I was scrolling Instagram and I saw a post that said “what is one word you would choose to describe yourself?” The first words that came to my mind were ranch wife or a mom and for some odd reason, those two words haunted me the rest of that day. Of course I’m a mom and a ranch wife, but what makes me the best mom and wife I can be.

Why do we limit ourselves on who we think we are? There is NOTHING wrong with dreaming big dreams and working on ourselves, but in that moment I limited myself to only think I am a mom and wife.

I love being a mother and a wife to rancher. Everyday I get to wake up and spend all day with my favorite people doing the things we love and I wouldn’t change that for the world. Sure it’s hard work, long days, and my best friends are the cows, but I love this life.

BUT that Instagram post said what is ONE word that I would use to describe ME! Here’s the problem, there isn’t just ONE word describes me, there are MULTIPLE!

I am LOVING. I wake up everyday and get to love my husband, kids, and this life. With all the bumps and bruises we see here at the ranch, my kids (and sometimes husband) come to me for a hug and to tell them it’s okay.

I am BRAVE! There are days here on the ranch we get put into situations that scare me to death. Sometimes I’m a human fence when the meanest cow in the herd is headed my way or tagging a calf that belongs to number 55 who will chase you until you can’t run anymore, or simply watching my kids ride horses by themselves for the first time. Everyday there is something you have to be brave about. Sometimes it’s normal everyday things that happen here on the ranch and sometimes it’s being brave because you are watching your kids achieve a milestone they have been working towards for so long.

I am CARING! Not only do I care about my kids and husband, but I have a ranch full of animals that need caring about too. Feeding, grooming, check-ups, lovings, you name it, it is needed by all the animals too.

I am FLAWED! I am not perfect, in fact, I’m far from it! I cry, stress over dumb things, make mistakes, overthink, and fail everyday at things and guess what, THAT IS OKAY! I’m human and as long as I’m doing my best, that’s good enough.

I am STRONG! I have been to hell and back in some parts of my life and through every trial, I have come out stronger than ever. Plus, I can now throw around our small hay bales so that kind of makes me a little more physically strong too. Haha

I am ME! The quote I choose to be my senior quote in high school was by Dr. Seuss and it said “Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!” and I will FOREVER stand by that quote from now on.

I’m not sure if this blog post was more needed for myself or for you, but what I do know if that we ALL need to stop limiting ourselves. I am a proud mom and wife, but I need to remember what characteristics I have that help me be the best mom and wife I can be.

So if you only take one thing from this post, let it be this… Take some time for yourself and watch yourself grow. You are a badass and there are so many awesome characteristics that make you be you!
